The Museum has over 75,000 items in its collections. These include a major collection of fine art, in particular 19th century sculptures, oils and watercolours and contemporary photography. The museum also holds large collections of costume and textiles, ceramics and glass, including the largest collection of perfume bottles in the country.

The museum's social history collection contains items relating to the history of Preston (much of which is on show in the Story of Preston gallery), including a large collection of early photography.

The Harris Museum and Art Gallery is a Grade I listed building in the heart of Preston, England's newest city. We hold collections of fine art, decorative art and social history artefacts relating to Preston and show up to twenty temporary exhibitions each year ranging from contemporary art to local history.
