Cornish Heritage Safaris is a new service for people who want to explore the magic and mystery of Cornwall. Our quest is to take you to unique places that many people miss, and to share with you some of the facts, the stories and the background needed to understand and interpret them. Inspired by showing our friends around the beautiful Cornish landscape, our excursions will show you the places we love, and give you the history and legends that surround them. You can enjoy a day away from the beach and see what else this stunning county has to offer. Leave all the driving and the navigation to us. Don't worry about where to eat lunch we have found, tried and tested some lovely places, and its all included in the price of the day trip. We even give you a coffee in the morning and tea in the afternoon. Some of our tours end with a tasting of locally produced wine or beer instead of afternoon tea, and then we even drive you home. Our guided tours are truly all-inclusive so all transport, entrance fees, drinks and even lunch are included in the price. If the day trips feature bicycle rides, beer tasting or wine tasting, this is all included too. Arthurian Tour Our tour starts outside St Materianas church, perched high on the cliff, and includes a morning at Tintagel Castle before lunch, followed by visits to other locations central to the Arthurian story. These include the site of King Arthur's last battle, The Battle of Camlann at Slaughterbridge, and the final resting place of his sword Excalibur. On the way we can visit the site of a legend describing the appearance of a round table on midsummer's night. But thats not all. We also visit a location inspired by the Arthurian legends but built in relatively modern times. And we give you morning coffee, lunch and afternoon tea. We will have tea at a famous inn on Bodmin Moor, and if theres time we will visit another location associated with Daphne du Maurier's novel Jamaica Inn. The all-inclusive price covers all transport, entrance fees, coffee, lunch and tea, as well as collection from your accommodation and return at the end of the day. Bodmin Moor: Mysteries, Monuments and Murder Tour This day out includes three separate sites of Cornish historical and cultural interest, as well as a local wine tasting, morning coffee and lunch. If you prefer not to include the wine tasting, we can arrange afternoon tea instead. Juxtaposed with the ruins of Bodmin Moor's engine houses are Bronze Age monuments and the natural geological wonders of the Cornubian batholith (granite tors). Our trips interpret the landscape and help you enjoy its dramatic beauty. We can stand inside the stone circles and try to feel their power, while we consider the theories and stories put forward to explain them. Or maybe you'll have your own ideas? On this tour we also visit the site of a Victorian murder and hear a tale of human tragedy. Bodmin Moor holds many mysteries and we visit a site that still remains open to interpretation and is yet to be excavated. At the end of the tour we can sample some locally made produce. Camel Valley Vineyard has won many international awards for its wines, and in a visit here we can taste the special local character of the area and its climate. The all-inclusive price covers all transport, entrance fees, coffee, lunch and the wine-tasting, as well as collection from your accommodation and return at the end of the day. Bicycles, Betjeman and Beer Tour Our day out combines all three: bicycles, Betjeman and beer. We begin by cycling the most scenic section of the Camel Trail, and then we consider Betjeman's poetry. We get as close as we can to understanding Betjeman's connection with Cornwall by meeting, when shes available, someone who knew the poet while he lived here in his final years. And then we learn more about Sharp's locally brewed, award-winning beer during a visit to the brewery. If time permits, our brewery tour will include a tutored tasting of Sharp's fine ales, straight from the barrel. The alternative is a trip to a local hostelry to try it for ourselves! The day out includes coffee in the morning and fish and chips for lunch from Rick Steins take-away in Padstow. And the all-inclusive price covers everything, including transport, bicycle hire, lunch, the beer-tasting, a short ferry trip and some poetry readings. As with all our tours, we will collect you from your accommodation and return you there at the end of the day. Alternative Tintagel Tour We love King Arthur, but Tintagel has so much more to offer. On this day trip we visit five sites of Cornish historic and cultural interest. Our day out includes a visit to a restored engine house (used for quarrying, not tin-mining) and a 600-year-old domestic farmhouse. Man has left his mark on the outstanding natural environment, in particular through coastal slate-quarrying and beautiful Cornish hedges (stone walls), and we can wonder at the remarkable Bronze Age carvings in the Rocky Valley. We will make our way along the valley to another natural feature and site of spiritual worship and inspiration the waterfall at St Nectan's Glen, which has its own stories to tell. This day trip involves coastal walks and steep inclines let us know if you have any concerns, and we can adapt our itinerary. The all-inclusive price covers lunch, morning coffee, afternoon tea, entrance fees and transport, including collection from your accommodation and your return there at the end of the day. Eden Project and Ancient Projects The Eden Project's botanical delights attract so many visitors that it can be very busy indeed. Let us take the strain by getting your tickets for you and taking you there nice and early. After a morning spent at Eden, we take you for lunch and then show you some ancient wonders nearby. Roche Rock has its own legends not surprising given its spectacular appearance and then we take you to a local church set in unusual surroundings. We then visit a huge Iron Age hill fort linked to the Arthurian legend, Castle-an-Dinas, which may have been a fortress of the Cornish kings. Some Cornish attractions feel as if they are over-run with people, especially in the summer, but this place is often quiet and offers a chance to reflect on the special pull that ancient Kernow has on many of us.
