York is joining the global biodiversity initiative called the City Nature Challenge from 26-29th April 2024 for the first time!
For the first time, York is part of the global biodiversity initiative called the City Nature Challenge from 26-29th April 2024! Families, friends, adults, children..anyone can participate! All you need is the free app, "iNaturalist" on your smartphone, or access to a camera and computer, to record observations of wildlife around York, and you can help York be #1 in the UK for this 4-day biodiversity competition! One can make observations of wild plants and animals on their own time, or join the many events being hosted across greater York between 26-29th April (click on the 'Events' tab on the website)Yes, even the common pigeons and dandelions in pavement cracks count as wildlife to record! Any observations of wild animals and plants made in the 'greater York' area between 26-29th April on iNaturalist will count towards York's total (see map on the website for 'greater York')More information about how to participate can be found on the York City Nature Challenge website, instagram, Twitter/X or Facebook
