Wigtownshire, (also known as the County of Wigtown) is a former administrative county and a registration county in the southern uplands of south western Scotland. A county until 1975 it was historically bordered by Stewartry of Kircudbright in the east and Ayrshire in the north and was often referred to as West Galloway. It was abolished in 1975 and is now part of Dumfires and Galloway.
