Kirkcudbrightshire was a county in south-west Scotland, and was also known by the name of East Galloway. It was bounded to the east and northeast by Dumfriesshire, to the south by the Irish Sea and the Solway Firth, to the west by Wigtownshire and to the north and north-west by Ayrshire.The county was abolished in 1975 and subsumed into the unitary authority of Dumfries and Galloway as the District of Stewartry.
