What do you get when you add a little soul to a blues rock band then move the whole shebang to Brixton? The indescribable genre-bending beats of British band Alabama 3, or A3 as they are known in the United States.
Known for a bit of good natured, tongue-in-cheek snarkiness, Alabama 3 was once known as the First Presleyterian Church of Elvis the Divine while founding members Jake Black and Rob Spraggadopted the on-stage personas of The Very Reverend Dr. D Wayne Love andLarry Love, respectively.Alabama 3 was founded when Jake Black and Robert met at an acid house party, where they decided country music and acid house would make for an interesting mix. Now the band makes use of such country and rock stalwarts as the guitar, bass guitar, harmonica and even house-inspired keyboard but lead singer Rob Spragg's growling vocals really make the band sound like nothing you've ever heard before.
