We Are Parable present: “The History of Fresh” – A celebration of streetwear in the UK and US Featuring: Fresh Dressed preview film screening, panel discussion and fashion presentation.
Fashion has always told a story, and the tale of how graffiti laden denim jackets, oversized trousers and shelltoe sneakers went from defining street style in the 1980s to heavily influencing the fashion catwalks the world over.
Fresh Dressed, a new documentary by Mass Appeal founder Sacha Jenkins, chronicles how hip hop and its lasting relationship with fashion resulted in an expression of aspiration that resonated with an entire generation.
Featuring interviews with Damon Dash, Pharrell Williams, Kanye West and Karl Kani, Fresh Dressed explores the issues of identity, self expression and music and how it has influenced streetwear how we know it today.
Experiential events company We Are Parable has decided to screen this documentary with a twist.
The film does an exceptional job at showing how hip hop and fashion were intertwined in the states, Anthony Andrews, Co-founder, said. However, we wanted to create supporting events that focused on the UK story of streetwear and hip hop what were our influences, what did we do? And thats how The History of Fresh was born.
The History of Fresh will be held on the 24th October, in East London, and will include an exclusive screening of Fresh Dressed (at the iconic Rio Cinema in Dalston) as well as a panel discussion featuring some of the UKs most prominent streetwear experts (including representatives from the London College of Fashion, as well as Wale Adeyemi MBE, founder of B-side and Marc Hare, founder of Mr. Hare) to talk through how the UK took the style from America and made it their own.
The second event of the weekender is a fashion presentation (being held at London Fields Brewery), designed to showcase some of the most exciting streetwear designers including 4649 and No Fixed Abode. Featuring VJ-ing performances from Visonbombing.
