Ticket sellers curb fraud NEWS
Livenation and Festival Republic have decided to change the way tickets are distributed in an attempt to curb fraudulent ticket touts.
In a move designed to cut down on ticket fraud that is all too prevalent in the UK, two of the biggest ticketing companies, Livenation and Festival Republic have announced that they will be sending out tickets to customers as soon as possible prior to their purchase, rather than waiting until just before the event.
Ticket companies claim that the current method of delaying the sending of tickets is designed to limit the available time that fraudsters and counterfeiters have to copy the original tickets and pass them into the marketplace.
However, the police have stated that this method of companies holding onto the tickets makes it difficult to prove that fake sellers and websites did not have the tickets to purchase in the first place, and have welcomed the move by Livenation and Festival Republic.
The City of London's Detective Chief Superintendent Steve Head commented on the change of policy by saying 'We believe that would stop a lot of people being the victims because we'd be able to act on it quicker, convicting the kind of people we want to convice. It's not about business; they are fraudsters'.
