Tevez may sue Man City manager Mancini

Manchester City and Argentina striker, Carlos Tevez, has announced that he may sue City manager Roberto Mancini for defamation of character following the disciplinary action brought against him for breach of contract.

City forward Tevez was recently found guilty of five separate breaches of his contract following an internal club investigation surrounding his alleged refusal to take to the pitch in City's Champions League tie at Bayern Munich; a game City eventually lost 2-0. As a punishment City fined the striker a month's wages, approximately £1m, and Mancini has made it clear that he will not select Tevez for City whilst he is in charge.

City's fabulously wealthy owner Sheikh Mansour and club chief chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak are reported to be 100% behind Mancini and the actions he has taken in dealing with the 'Tevez affair'.

The original allegation that Tevez refused to play was upheld during the internal investigation although Tevez has steadfastly maintained that he simply refused to warm up when asked by Mancini as he had already done so, and that what followed was a misunderstanding, probably caused by language differences and a misinterpretation. The most recent reports suggest that the Argentina striker is prepared to battle on to prove his innocence.

Tevez, City's top scorer last season, still has 14 days to appeal against the decision of the disciplinary hearing and appears to be willing to take his case to court as he has been advised that Mancini's post-match comments could amount to defamation of his character. The Tevez camp has also let it be known that they are considering legal action regarding inconsistencies surrounding the precise nature of the five charges levelled against the player compared with what was published on the club's official website.

As the club decided against extending Tevez's two-week suspension he is, in theory, now available for selection. However, with City five points clear at the top of the Premier league after thrashing great rivals Man Utd 6-1 on Sunday, it is highly unlikely that the manager would even consider the selection of Tevez, particularly given his comments that Tevez has no future at the Etihad Stadium whilst Mancini is in charge.

It looks increasingly likely that Tevez's future lies elsewhere and that City will attempt to offload him during the January transfer window, although it is questionable whether any club in its right mind would be willing to shell out many millions of pounds for a player with a now badly tarnished reputation. City will undoubtedly take a massive financial hit in getting rid of Tevez, but if any club can afford that, it is Man City.

Meanwhile the rest of the squad will have their minds fixed on the matter of playing football as City travel to Wolves tonight for a fourth round Carling Cup clash, where they will be red hot favourites to reach the quarter finals
