Stamps pay tribute to Dahl characters NEWS
A special series of stamps have been released by the Royal Mail to celebrate Roald Dahl's children's classics.
Ophelia Dahl said her father, who died in 1990 aged 74 years old, would have been 'thrilled' by the tribute.
The Cardiff-born author wrote the classic children's books Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Fantastic Mr Fox, James and the Giant Peach, Matilda and others.
The stamps include illustrations of his most famous works, illustrated by Quentin Blake. Blake's drawings are synonymous with the children's classics.
'My dad wrote thousands of letters home throughout his life and never dreamed that one day one of his own characters would grace a stamp.
'He'd be thrilled. This is an excellent way for us to kick off a year of celebrations to mark 30 years in print for The BFG and it's great that the stamps include a collector's set, devoted to The BFG and other characters from this book.' said Ophelia.
The 30th anniversary of The BFG (Big Friendly Giant) is marked by a sheet of four stamps which feature scenes from the book.
Dahl's career spanned many decades and his books were so successful many have been turned into films, including Matilda, Fantastic Mr Fox and James and the Giant Peach.
Dahl has been referred to as 'one of the greatest storytellers for children of the 20th Century'.
Dahl spent his later years in Buckinghamshire and his gravestone can be found at St. Peter and St. Paul's Church in Great Missenden, Bucks.
