Spring Season 2015 at the Belgrade Theatre NEWS
West End Hits, Family Favourites and World Class Drama Unveiled at Coventry’s Belgrade Theatre.
As 2014 draws to a close, Coventrys Belgrade Theatre has announced details of ten new shows visiting the theatre in Spring 2015 which include a new UK tour of Alan Bennetts The History Boys, the return of much-loved family musical Joseph And The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat and the world stage premiere of John Boynes international best-selling novel, The Boy In The Striped Pyjamas.
Following in the wake of last years critically-acclaimed production of The Perfect Murder, the Belgrade is thrilled to play host to the stage premiere of Peter James international, best-selling novel Dead Simple from Mon 26 Sat 31 Jan 2015. Directed by Olivier Award winner Ian Talbot and adapted by award-winning writer Shaun McKenna, this chilling crime-thriller has all the classic suspense, twists and turns of a classic Peter James novel. The show features an all-star cast which includes Holby City favourite Tina Hobly, Jamie Lomas, best known for his roles in Eastenders and Casualty and Gray OBrien, award-winning star of Coronation Street, Titanic, Peak Practice and _Casualty _in the role of Detective Roy Grace.
This will be followed by a visit from Alan Bennetts multi award-winning play The History Boys from Tues 3 Sat 7 Feb. Voted as the nations favourite play, this much-loved drama follows a group of quick-witted pupils at a northern grammar school as they prepare for their Oxbridge exams under the guidance of three very different teachers. A hilariously funny and heartfelt study of the true purpose of education which is set for the very top of the league table.
From Mon 9 Sat 14 Feb, the Belgrade will play host to a new U.K tour of Reginald Roses gripping courtroom thriller Twelve Angry Men following a record-breaking run in the West End. Based on the three-time Academy Award nominated film which was produced by and starred Henry Fonda, this searing study of prejudice, injustice and the abuse of power has been described as the classiest, most intelligent drama in the West End and promises to keep audiences enthralled until the final, nail-biting climax.
Masters of suspense, The Agatha Christie Theatre Company are back with another spine-chilling installment of classic mystery in And Then There Were None from Mon 16 Sat 21 Feb following previously successful tours of Verdict, Murder on the Nile and Black Coffee.
Commemorating the centenary of World War One, Joan Littlewoods satirical masterpiece Oh What A Lovely War will visit the Belgrade from Mon 30 Mar Sat 4 April in a new adaptation by esteemed director Terry Johnson.
Following their triumphant visit with Brassed Off earlier this year, the Touring Consortium Theatre Company return with a brand new production of Arthur Millers classic play, A View From The Bridge from Wed 8 Sat 11 April. Widely regarded as one of the greatest classics of our time, this dark and passionate story of family rivalry, sexual repression and personal obsession will visit Coventry as part of a major new UK tour marking the centenary of Arthur Millers birth in 2015.
Back by popular demand, Andrew Lloyd Webbers sparkling musical. Joseph And The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat bursts onto the Belgrade Main stage from Tues 21 Sat 25 April in an explosion of spectacle and song. Retelling the Biblical story of Joseph, his eleven brothers and the coat of many colours, this magical musical is full of unforgettable songs including Those Canaan Days, Any Dream Will Do and Close Every Door To Me. Demand for tickets is likely to be high so patrons are advised to book early to avoid disappointment.
Families can look forward to another smashing instalment of 3D fun from Tues 26 Sat 30 May with the return of Horrible Histories in an all-new double-bill, Groovy Greeks and Incredible Invaders. Featuring eye-boggling 3D effects, this is one history lesson thats guaranteed to thrill parents and kids alike!
Joining the party from Mon 8 Sat 13 June, Alan Ayckbourns riotous comedy, Absent Friends will visit the Main Stage in a sparkling new production by London Classic Theatre which expertly marries Ayckbourns unique craftsmanship with his acute talent for social observation.
Following previous visits with_ Swallows and Amazons and _Goodnight Mister Tom, renowned innovators the Childrens Touring Partnership return for 2015 with the world-premiere stage production of The Boy In The Striped Pyjamas from Tues 16 Sat 20 June. Based on the best-selling novel by John Boyne, this heart-wrenching tale of the forbidden friendship between two boys on opposite sides of the wartime divide promises to be both a deeply moving and thought-provoking theatrical experience.
A subsequent release featuring further details of the Belgrades full Spring 2015 programme will follow in the next month.
