Sir Anthony Hopkins added a Classical Brit Award to his Oscar and collection of other accolades after his composition impressed the music world.

'The Silence of the Lambs' star attended the ceremony with violinist Andre Rieu, who recorded the work as the title track of his album 'And The Waltz Goes On'. The actor was a surprise addition to the red carpet after composing a waltz especially for Rieu. In an interview with Sky News this week, the Welsh actor and composer stated: 'It's a dream come true for me. I'd always admired Andre. He's a superb musician, a terrific showman and a wonderful violinist.' He admitted to being a 'life-long lover of classical music' and that he has always dabbled in composition.

Other successful Brit winners include Gareth Malone and The Military Wives who picked up the first ever Classic Brits single of the year award for their Christmas chart-topper 'Wherever You Are'. The choir also performed the song 'Sing' which was written for the Queen's Diamond Jubilee. They were accompanied at the Royal Albert Hall by the song's composers; Take That star Gary Barlow and Andrew Lloyd Webber who both played grand pianos. The event - officially called the 'Classic Brit Awards 2012 with MasterCard' - was hosted by Myleene Klass.
