Fun loving Princess Diana was smuggled in to a gay bar with Freddie Mercury and Kenny Everett dressed as a man. The Sun reported that the Princess had dressed in camp gear and was delighted that she wasn't recognised.

It emerged yesterday in a new book written by actress Cleo Rocos, that Princess Diana had attended a gay bar with Queen's frontman Freddie Mercury and TV comic and DJ Kenny Everett dressed in gear like the camp 1970's Disco group, The Village People.

Cleo Rocos who was also with the Princess and her gay mates that day said that she looked like a male model and she 'loved it'.

Princess Di was delighted to be served at the bar without being noticed in her camouflage army jacket, black leather cap and aviator sunglasses.

Cleo told The Sun:#quote#When we walked in, we felt she would be discovered any minute.But people blanked her. She sort of disappeared. She loved it.'#/quote#

The stunt was organised by the foursome whilst downing champagne and peach cocktails at Kenny's penthouse during the day.

They came up with the idea when the Princess wanted to carry on partying with her unlikely mates.

It has been claimed that Princess Di was warned about the bar being 'full of hairy gay men', and that 'sometimes there are fights outside'. She was also asked, 'What would the headline be if you were caught in a gay bar brawl'.

Diana, who had managed to lose her bodyguards for the evening, intended on making the most of her freedom. Freddie Mercury persuaded them to 'let the girl have some fun'.

After purchasing a wine and a beer, Princess Diana made a swift exit, and returned to Kensington Palace and the prank was never repeated.

The clothes were returned to Kenny the next day, with a note saying, 'We must do it again'.

Ms Rocos wrote in her new book, The Power of Positive Drinking, that the episode was never made public, but the manager of the bar told the Daily Express that Diana had openly visited the bar a few years later and had admitted the secret prank to him.
