Pixar come-back after Cars flop NEWS
Pixar studios hope to bounce back from the box office flop of Cars 2 with a film set in the world of Mexico's Day of the Dead holiday.
On Tuesday at the annual convention for cinemagoers, CinemaCon, Pixar revealed their plans for the next big animated movie based on Dia de los Muertos, the Day of the Dead.
In 2011, Cars 2 received lukewarm and positively chilly reviews, the most the studios have ever received. Pixar, who have ruled the best animated film category for a number of years, failed to pick up a single Oscar nomination for the sequel.
Toy Story 3's Lee Unkrich, also behind Toy Story 2, Monsters Inc and Finding Nemo, will take the reins for this new film. 'So excited to finally reveal my next movie at Pixar: a story set in the world of the Mexican holiday Dia de los Muertos,' Unkrich tweeted.
Upcoming Pixar films include a Monster's Inc sequel ready for next year, The Good Dinosaur to be released in 2014 and the latest film; a Scots-themed fairytale which has already been attracting attention and will include the vocal talents of Kelly MacDonald, Emma Thompson and Billy Connolly.
Meanwhile Pixar's parent, Disney Studios, has revealed it will be bringing out a sequel to this year's Muppets film. Director James Bobbin will be at the wheel once more but Jason Segel has said he will not be part of the next film.
