Paolini's Eragon sequel a hit NEWS
Inheritance by Christopher Paolini sells over 76,000 copies in Britain within the first week of publication.
Christopher Paolini's young adult series, Eragon, draws to an end as Inheritance, the final title hits the shelves. Eragon is a fantasy series telling of a boy and his dragon and has been a huge success for this young author.
Published on 8 November, Inheritance has caused the biggest first-week sale throughout the genres since Stephenie Meyer released a new title in her Twilight series last year. It has become the fastest selling book of the year so far, with an average of one sale every five-and-a-half seconds.
The UK sales are just a drop in the ocean in comparison to the popularity of the book in the US, where nearly 500,000 copies were sold in just one day.
Paolini started writing the Eragon series aged 15, when he graduated from high school early. He self-published the work when he was 19 before signing a major book deal.
Inheritance, the fourth and final Eragon title, sees Eragon and his dragon, Saphira, attempt to bring down the evil King Calbatorix and save his home of Alagaesia.
The first three Eragon books have reportedly sold 25m copies worldwide.
'We knew that the book was hugely anticipated and this has been reflected in the sales numbers,' said Philippa Dickinson, MD of Paolini's UK publisher Random House. 'Random House Children's Books is delighted to see that retailers are doing so well with it in this important pre-Christmas sales period.'
