Murray through to Indian Wells QF

In his first tournament since losing the Australian Open final against Novak Djokovic Andy Murray reached the quarter-finals of the BNP Paribas Open at Indian Wells beating Argentina's Carlos Berlocq 7-6 6-4, despite being unhappy at the grunting of his opponent.

Murray's vocal opponent served for the first set of their encounter so the straight sets win for the Scot was not as straight forward as the score perhaps suggests.

The match was also quite testy with Berlocq complaining that the world no.3 was taking too long between end changes and Murray responding with a representation to the umpire about the Argentine's sporadic, but loud grunting.

Murray spoke about the issue after the match 'When I have been on the court or off it, it's never been something I have found to be really that off-putting' he said. 'But if it's going to be suggested that that I am using gamesmanship by taking too long, then you can't be making noises like that on court. I haven't experienced it like that before'.

In the quarter-finals Murray meets another Argentinean, Juan Martin del Potro, who beat Germany's Tommy Haas to reach the last eight.

The pick of the quarter-finals sees world no.2 Roger Federer take on the fit-again Rafael Nadal. Federer beat Swiss countryman Stan Wawrinka in three sets in the fourth round whilst Nadal dispatched Latvia's Ernests Gulbis, also in straight sets.

World no.1 and Australian Open champion Novak Djokovic reached his quarter-final spot by beating American Sam Querrey in straight sets and he faces a stern last eight test against Jo-Wilfried Tsonga.
