Liverpool Tate: Alice in Wonderland NEWS
The Albert Dock has announced an exciting programme of family entertainment in November to celebrate Tate Liverpool's Alice in Wonderland art exhibition.
It has been 150 years since Lewis Carol's books Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass were first published and the quirky books still continue to enchant people of all ages to this day.
To demonstrate how these timeless novels have inspired generations of artists, Tate Liverpool have curated an Alice in Wonderland exhibition. This exhibition provides a comprehensive historical exploration, discovering how the books have influenced the creative world for decades.
From the journey of childhood to adulthood, the perception of reality and meaning over nonsense, Tate Liverpool documents the ideas of Wonderland explored by numerous well-known artists.
Exhibition highlights will surely be the opportunity to see Salvador Dali's series of Alice in Wonderland illustrations, as well as work by Rene Magritte, Yayoi Kusama and the original illustrations by Lewis Carol himself.
The madness of Wonderland has escaped the Tate out onto The Albert Dock as a giant Alice-inspired image projects onto the front of the buildings on the dock, running until the end of this month.
This next weekend 12-13 November brings the Mad Hatter's Weekend which will be jam-packed full of family fun, with many projects including hat designer Hayley Marsden's Mad Hatter hat workshop.
The Spike Theatre team will be visiting the docks as walking playing cards, welcoming visitors to Liverpool's Wonderland.
Executive Director at Tate Liverpool Andrea Nixon commented: 'We are delighted that Tate Liverpool's Alice in Wonderland exhibition has inspired such a lively and imaginative programme of family events.'
Alice in Wonderland at the Tate Liverpool is open to the public until 29 January 2012 for £8 admission, £6 concessions.
