Jarvis Cocker to publish lyrics

A new book to be published by Jarvis Cocker will contain unreleased lyrics.



Lyrics written by Pulp front man Jarvis Cocker are to be published in a book, it has been announced. Cocker, who began his lyric writing aged 15 found much of his success came from writing about normal' everyday things that people could relate to.

'My breakthrough came when I stopped thinking, I've got to be profound' Jarvis said.

His book is titled 'Mother, Brother, Lover: Selected Lyrics' as is due to be published in October by Faber. Cocker stated: 'I can tell you my first ever lyrics that I ever wrote won't be in the collection, you'll be glad to hear. They were from a song called 'Shakespeare Roll'...'Got a Baby, only one thing's wrong, quote Shakespeare all day long. I said baby 'why're you ignoring me?' she said: 'To be or not to be'.'

Jarvis Cocker admitted that most of his writing is about 'spontaneous little things' that occur in everyday life and that this seems to be at the heart of his lyrical success.
