Hardback sales boost reported NEWS
Six hardbacks written by comedic celebrities and Jamie Oliver published last Thursday sold over 10,000 in their first three days, boosting book sales for the first time in 9 months.
29 September has been dubbed 'Super Thursday' by publishers, due to the release of more than 200 hardback books. The week's sales topped the £30m mark for the first time since Christmas last year.
Top buys included Lee Evan's memoir The Life of Lee, Lee Child's novel The Affair and Jamie Oliver's latest cookbook, Jamie's Great Britain. Oliver's title has been picked as the favourite to top book charts this Christmas.
£32.1m was spent at UK book shops between 25 September and 1 October, which was £2.5m more than the previous week, reports The Bookseller.
Despite the sales boost, the Bookseller data reports that figures were down from last year's Super Thursday week, which topped the £36m mark.
