Daniel Day-Lewis made history yesterday at the Oscars, by winning his third gong for Best Actor for the film Lincoln. The 55 year-old British actor is the first man to win the coveted award three times.
British actor Daniel Day-Lewis is celebrating today after being the first man ever to win the Best Actor Award at the 85th Academy Awards in LA. The Brit won his third award for the portrayal of the 16th US president Abraham Lincoln in the hit film 'Lincoln'.
The British actor now leads the way in Oscar wins, beating some of the legendary Hollywood actors which include Marlon Brando, Jack Nicholson and Dustin Hoffman who have all been honoured with the coveted award twice.
The Lincoln actor spent a year preparing for his role in the movie, and remained in character during the production.
His award was presented by Academy Award winner Meryl Streep, accepting his award, Daniel Day-Lewis said:#quote#I really don't know how any of this happened, I do know I've received more than my fair share of good fortune in my life.#/quote#
His previous Oscar awards for Best Actor were for My Left Foot in 1989 and There Will Be Blood in 2007.
It was a great night for Brits at the Oscars this year as British Singer Adele tearfully accepted her Oscar for Best Original Song for Skyfall, the theme song for the recent Bond film.
In a tearful acceptance speech she thanked her songwriting partner Paul Hepworth and her boyfriend Simon Konecki, saying: 'I love you baby'.
The 007 Bond film Skyfall won two awards at this year's Oscars, Best Original Song and Best Sound Editing Award.
Best Film Award went to Argo, which was Directed and starred Ben Affleck and Best Actress Award was awarded to Jennifer Lawrence for Silver Linings Playbook.
Unfortunately the actress wasovershadowed by her trip on the stairs when she went to collect her award.
