It is understood that Mr Roach will not appear in the soap while the investigations into the allegation continue. A spokesperson for ITV has said the broadcaster was not in a position to comment today.

This comes just weeks after the actor appeared on a New Zealand news channel saying that the public shouldn't be judgmental of people who have committed child sex crimes and that they should be 'totally forgiving'.

These comments came just a few days after Mr Roach was heard saying that victims of sexual abuse brought it on themselves, this resulted in public outrage and the actor was forced to apologise.

The actor, who was appearing the stage show of Corrie in New Zealand has been raising eyebrows with his controversial comments which includes him saying that offences from over 30 years ago should not be judged too harshly.

He added: 'Things were different back in the 1970's. People were more tactile.'
