And the BAFTA goes to

The BAFTA Awards kicked off last night on the BBC and the channel enjoyed its biggest audience for a decade, although ITV beat the BBC by having the most viewers for their stonking great costume drama Mr Selfridge.

The BAFTA Awards kicked off in style on the red carpet at the Royal Opera House last night with A listers looking stunning in eerrr black! But they all looked very cold and wet.

The UK's version of the Oscars, is of course not without our lovely weather...rain, which made the red carpet a very wet and difficult walk for many in their designer dresses.

Black seemed to be the colour to wear at this year's ceremony, but a little ray of sunshine posed on the red carpet and brightened up the soggy proceedings in the name of Marion Cotillard, who wore a beautiful canary yellow gown by Dior.

Another star who braved the red carpet with colour was Dame Helen Mirren, who had coloured her hair pink in support of the Breast Cancer Charity, and looked truly amazing, although the actress has had a lot of criticism from the media for her choice of hair colour.

The television coverage of the BAFTA's last night enjoyed one of the largest audiences in ten years, but the award ceremony was still beaten by ITV's costume drama Mr Selfridge.

According to the Guardian the BAFTA's averaged 5.4 million viewers between 9pm and 11pm, which was up on last year's audience of 5.3 million.

But Mr Selfridge on ITV was watched by 6 million viewers between 9pm and 10pm. The period drama that was recommissioned by ITV has had healthy ratings and is currently averaging 8.5 million viewers per episode.

Winners of the BAFTA's this year included Daniel Day Lewis, who was named as best actor for his role as Lincoln, Anne Hathaway for best actress for her role in Les Miserables; and Ben Affleck and George Clooney for their film Argo.
