Brockhole Lake District Visitor Centre Outdoors
The Lake District National Park is the largest English National Park, established in 1951. Its 2,292 square kilometres cover fells, dales, lakes, villages, towns and parts of the West Coast's beaches and tidepools
The Lake District National Park includes one third of the County of Cumbria and extends from Caldbeck in the north to Lindale in the south, from Ravenglass in the west to Shap in the east. The present National Park Authority was set up under the Environment Act 1995 and took over the running of the National Park in April 1997.
House, cafe and shop open daily from 1 April 2006, 10. 00 am - 5. 00 pm
Gardens, adventure playground and grounds open all year.
Enjoy our famous adventure playground, lakeside setting, exhibitions, fabulous gardens, information centre, gift shop and cafe, with good pushchair and wheelchair access. Free admission. Pay and display car park.
Looking at Little Legs in the Lake District (under 7 years) Explore the grounds of Brockhole and learn about the wildlife of the Lake District.
Letter Search Trail (7 years plus) Using a simple map, children search for letters hidden in the grounds and learn about the Lake District and the work of the National Park Authority.
Compass Trail (10 years plus) Bring your own compasses and test your skills as a navigator. The trail should take about 30-45 minutes.
Children under 10 will need help. Older ones may do if they are unfamiliar with taking bearings.
Skylines Trail A unique collection of "Landscape Literature". 13 works of public art in inspiring locations around Brockhole grounds.
The pieces were the culmination of a local schools project involving poets and artists, provoking responses from young people to the Cumbrian environment. .
