Founded in 1796, Kendal Museum's fascinating collections include local Archaeology, History, Geology and a Natural History collection from around the globe. We also have a changing programme of temporary exhibitions and displays, events, walks and talks.

To celebrate 2005's museums and galleries month theme, Objects of Desire: The Art of Collecting, we are offering an opportunity to discover Kendal Museum's unique and historical collection of some of the World's finest Victorian bird taxidermy, including examples of rare species. Examining the work of H Murray of Carnforth, one of the most celebrated late 19th century / early 20th century taxidermists, this exhibition offers an insight not only into the art and skill of the taxidermist, but into the story of man's changing relationship with nature.

Kendal's first Museum was formed in 1796 by William Todhunter who exhibited a collection of fossils, plants, minerals, animals and antiques.

Highlighting conservation issues, the World Wildlife Gallery gallery offers an exciting introduction to a variety of animals, birds and insects and their natural environments around the World.

Find out about the geology of the Lake District in the Natural History Gallery, including the intense volcanic activity that produced the great mountain ranges, and follow a nature trail through various habitats. .
