Kirby Hall Houses
Decorative carving and ornate gardens fit for a queen Kirby Hall is one of the great Elizabethan houses, built in the hope of receiving the Queen on her annual 'progresses' around the country.
James I paid several visits to Hatton's nephew, another Christopher Hatton and Sir Christopher Hatton, the fourth, added the great gardens described as 'ye finest garden in England' in the late 17th century. They are now partly restored and laid out in an elaborate 'cutwork' design.
Access to hall: Via impacted gravel path from main gate. Whole ground floor easily accessible to wheelchair users. Great West Staircase is suitable for most ambulant disabled visitors. Chairs available in some rooms.
Gardens: All accessible via impacted gravel paths and smooth grass. Alternative entrance from forecourt to gain entry to garden.
