Availability: Sessions run once a month on either a Saturday and Sunday most months between March and September (not April). Please note that the venue require booking requests be made with several weeks advance notice. Weather: Kayaking will go ahead in most conditions. For your own safety, very rarely flood conditions may lead to postponement - the venue will contact you if ever a session is postponed. Duration: Sessions last around three hours from initial introduction to a debrief. To ensure a prompt start, please arrive a few minutes in advance of your booked start time and allow yourself time at the centre afterwards to shower and change. Numbers On Day: There is a student to tutor ratio of 8:1 and you will be in your own kayak. Spectators: Spectators are welcome and can hire boats in the main season to go out on the river. Safety remains their own responsibility at all times. Cover and toilet facilities are available and a restaurant is located in the park overlooking the river. Dress Code: You need swimwear, towel, pair of old trainers, tracksuit and long-sleeved top (they will get wet). A buoyancy aid and cagoule (waterproof top) are provided. If you wear glasses, either remove or firmly secure them. Contact lenses may be worn. Guidelines: Northbound exit the M1 at junction 17 onto the M45. At the first roundabout take the first exit onto the A45 Coventry. Join the A445 Leamington and keep following the road (for Leamington/Warwick) to the town centre. Mill Road is off the B4099 towards Royal Leamington Spa and the (signposted) boat centre is in the park. Restrictions: Minimum age 14. You must be reasonably fit and confident in the water. Ability to swim is not necessary as buoyancy aids are worn at all times. You will be asked to complete a medical declaration which must be signed by a parent/guardian if under 18. Other Info: You WILL get wet! There are hot shower facilities at the venue, so please bring a change of clothes and your shower kit.
Your experience begins with a safety briefing and an outline of basic handling techniques from your expert instructor. Then go out onto the water in your one-person kayak for an exhilarating river trip through the Victorian Jephson Gardens and into the nature reserve. This is followed by games specifically designed to make you feel more at ease and competent in the water - a fun way to end a satisfying experience. Kayaking is one of the fastest growing watersports in the country and can't be beaten for the sheer pleasure of powering yourself silently across the water.
