Norwich Cathedral Churches
In 2004 Norwich Cathedral welcomed approx. 475, 165 visitors. Given the huge amount of events, concerts, exhibitions and of course services that we offer here, it is understandable that so many people come to visit the Cathedral each year.
The Cathedral is built of flint rubble and mortar faced with limestone ashlar, imported from Caen in France (the lighter, smoother stone) and from Barnack in Northamptonshire (greyer, fossil-filled stone). The ground plan is almost unchanged from the Romanesque original, with fourteen bays making up an unusually long aisle. One feature to watch for is the shape of the radiating chapels, which consist of two intersecting segments of a circle.
Public guided tours run all year at 10. 45am, 12 noon and 2. 15pm Monday - Saturday, all visitors are welcome.
Tours last 1 hour (approx) and cover the main points of the cathedral building. Guided tours begin at the West End of the cathedral. These tours are £2. 50 per adult, but are FREE for children under 16 years old. Tickets are on sale at the Information Point, at the West end of the building.
