Melford Hall Houses
Romantic turreted brick Tudor mansion. Set in the unspoilt village of Long Melford, the house has changed little externally since 1578 when Queen Elizabeth I was entertained here, and retains its original panelled banqueting hall. It has been the home of the Hyde Parker family since 1786. There are a Regency library, Victorian bedrooms, good collections of furniture and porcelain and a small display of items connected with Beatrix Potter, who was related to the family. The garden contains some spectacular specimen trees and a banqueting house, and there is an attractive walk through the park.
Disabled drivers can park at house (10yds). Drop-off point. Building: 2 steps to entrance, ramp available. 3 wheelchairs. Ground floor accessible. Restricted access for small powered vehicles; safety regulations permit only one wheelchair on first floor at any time. Stairs to other floors, stairlift available. Seating available. WCs: Adapted WC at gatehouse, near car park. Adapted cubicle in the ladies' WC. Grounds: Partly accessible. Access to garden and Tudor banqueting house difficult due to steps and slopes. .
